Ryan Shazier

Ryan Shazier is a freak. This much was clear before Wednesday.

But a post-practice scene described on the social media accounts of Pittsburgh Steelers players reinforces Shazier’s elite athleticism.

Linebacker Vince Williams posted on twitter that Shazier was getting ready to race the Steelers’ top receivers — Antonio Brown, Markus Wheaton and Sammie Coates — in a 40-yard dash.

“We got a race out here today,” Williams said.

Brown’s SnapChat showed a video clip of the race, which appeared to show Shazier winning. Williams later tweeted, “@RyanShazier the fastest player on the team.”

Shazier

Shazier ran an unofficial 4.36-second 40 yard dash at Ohio State’s pro day, but beating speedy receivers is legit. Wheaton, Brown and Coates all have recorded speed in the 4.4s.

The Steelers believe Shazier can be an All-Pro if he learns to use his speed on every play. Shazier has missed significant time due to injury in each of the last two seasons, but he found a rhythm late last season and finished the year with 87 tackles and two forced fumbles.

Once he gets the nuances of the position down and lets his instincts take over, watch out.
