MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) – DeAngelo Williams pays for 53 mammograms to honor his mom, who died of breast cancer.

Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams announced earlier this month that his nonprofit organization, The DeAngelo Williams Foundation, will cover the cost of 53 mammograms at hospitals located in Charlotte, North Carolina and Pittsburgh.

Williams, a former University of Memphis All American, is a staunch supporter of breast cancer awareness.

In 2014, Williams’ mother, Sandra Hill, died after battling breast cancer. She was just 53 years old. He also lost his four aunts to the disease, but not before leading a push in 2009 to allow NFL players to wear pink cleats throughout October for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow took the field again Monday, but this time making his minor-league baseball debut.

The 2007 Heisman trophy winner joined the New York Mets for their three-week instructional league at Tradition Field in Port St Lucie, Florida. It’s a training camp that allows young players to develop their skills within a structured environment, something that will benefit Tebow as someone who hasn’t played organized baseball since his junior year in high school.

Typically, a minor league camp wouldn’t garner the attention of reporters and news helicopters, but fans and media flocked to day one of the athlete’s endeavor with the Mets organization. The Mets signed Tebow to a minor league contract earlier this month, according to ESPN. More >

The official return of pro football will have to wait another four days. The NFL canceled Sunday night’s Hall of Fame Game because of poor field conditions. The Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts are headed back home.

“I was notified at about 5:30 that there was a problem at midfield and in the end zones with some of the painting that it was kind of congealing and rubberized, which meant players might slip on it,” Pro Football Hall of Fame president David Baker told NFL Media’s Steve Wyche. “The folks with the field tried to remediate that by dropping some other pellets but after talking to the coaches and staff for both the Packers and the Colts, there More >

Broncos Rookie Paxton Lynch: I can play right away

Denver Broncos coach Gary Kubiak might have “kind of let” players know that Mark Sanchez will be the starting quarterback, according to defensive tackle Sylvester Williams, but that doesn’t mean Paxton Lynch isn’t using training camp to push himself into position to snatch that job away — sooner rather than later.

“I definitely think I have the opportunity to better myself and put myself up in that position to play right away or sooner than I had thought,” Lynch said Tuesday, via ESPN. “I knew those guys were going to be ahead of me just because of experience — Trevor his experience in the offense and Mark his experience in the league and me being a rookie, and this is the first time More >

Ryan Shazier Beats Steelers Wideouts in Foot Race

Jeremy Fowler | ESPN Staff Writer | June 8, 2016

Ryan Shazier is a freak. This much was clear before Wednesday.

But a post-practice scene described on the social media accounts of Pittsburgh Steelers players reinforces Shazier’s elite athleticism.

Linebacker Vince Williams posted on twitter that Shazier was getting ready to race the Steelers’ top receivers — Antonio Brown, Markus Wheaton and Sammie Coates — in a 40-yard dash.

“We got a race out here today,” Williams said.

Brown’s SnapChat showed a video clip of the race, which appeared to show Shazier winning. Williams later tweeted, “@RyanShazier the fastest player on the team.”
