Grayson Allen has a problem. Duke and the ACC have to see that… Hopefully.

What does the Duke star have to do for some action to be taken to interrupt a pattern of behavior that has no place on the basketball court?

Last night, in a 16-point road loss to No. 9 Florida State, Allen shoved a Florida State assistant coach. The headlines read “appears” to shove. The TV talking heads have already begun making excuses, wanting to see the play in full speed rather than slow motion. The Florida State assistant has taken responsibility for his role in being shoved. All this misses a greater issue and gives Allen the benefit of the doubt. This thinking tacitly allows the More >

More than 10 years ago, Baylor — a small, private Baptist university in the middle of Texas — found itself at the epicenter of scandal when one basketball player murdered a teammate.

This involved guns, drugs, lies, a coach covering up details, and ultimately, the NCAA sanctioning the Bears with some of the harshest penalties of that time.

Fast-forward to this week when Baylor announced it would suspend with the intention of firing it’s $6 million, ultra-successful head football coach Art Briles in the wake of an investigation of countless sexual assaults involving players in his program.

LSU freshman Ben Simmons told ESPN that he will hire an agent and declare for the NBA draft.

“I’m making it official,” Simmons said late Sunday night.

The 6-foot-10 Australian averaged 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game this past season for the Tigers, who finished a disappointing 19-14 overall and 11-7 in the SEC, failing to make the NCAA tournament.

LSU declined an invitation to play in the NIT.

Simmons entered the season as the top freshman in the country and was the only player to average more than 19 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.

According to numerous NBA executives, Simmons is expected to be taken either first or second in the June 23 NBA draft.

Duke freshman Brandon Ingram, according to several NBA executives, has closed the gap — but the majority told More >

Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan is retiring effective immediately, he said Tuesday after the team’s win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Longtime assistant Greg Gard is taking over as interim head coach.

“After months of conversation with Barry Alvarez and his administrative staff, as well as my wife, Kelly, I have decided that now is the right time to step down from the head coaching position here at Wisconsin,” Ryan said in a statement released after the game.

Ryan coached Wisconsin to a school-record 36 wins last season and a loss in the national championship game against Duke. Wisconsin is 7-5 this season, one more loss than the Badgers had all last season.

Ryan, who turns 68 on Sunday, had said in a statement in June that he would coach this season and then step down.

“This was a decision months in More >
